Christian Storms...seasoned producer turned sound recordist…AND LOVING IT!

Working in Japan for 34 years, I came to location sound via a 25 year career as a producer. I LOVE JUST BEING A SOUND RECORDIST and I appreciate the heartache of production. To me, any tough situation “sounds good” to this soundman.

Fully Bilingual. Went to graduate school here. I can read and write Japanese. I’ve subtitled over 70 feature films and have been an on-set interpreter and AD for many feature films mostly for director Miike Takashi. Having another person on set other than a fixer who is fully bilingual is extremely helpful. A bilingual sound recordist is self-sufficient, knows his way around town, knows how to talk to talent, helps order dinner, can drive, and more than anything is an extra set of “ears” and hands on set. BACKSTORY

My sound experience started in dubbing and post pro ADR.  As a voice actor director for games like MetalWolf Chaos and Bravo Music 3 and 40 dubbed commercials, as well as the dubbed Japanese version of South Park for three seasons, I cut my sound recording and mixing teeth.

The next step was the field as a dialogue coach and eventually recording myself. I have honed my sound skills over the past ten years often working as a producer/sound mixer much like David Maysles.

As a dialogue coach on 10 features films (TOKYO VICE, THOR, SUKIYAKI WESTERN DJANGO, HBO’s Tokyo Vice), I acquired skills from working with the sound department recording on location as well as ADR in the studio. See: www.dialogue-coach.local81.jp/english.html

As a six year old, I had a train set. I made picture book narratives of stories set on the train set. I borrowed my mom’s cassette recorder and started recording my voice reading the books. From there, I used the cassette recorder to interview my neighbors and record albums on my stereo. Funny how childhood play becomes a profession.
